And... I was extremely surprised at how, at any distance exceeding ~30 feet, it was almost indistinguishable from a Mazda 3. I was so disappointed.
When the G35 came out, it looked like nothing on the road at the time.
And if it wasn't for all of the neglected models with faded paint and yellowed headlights, it would still leave an impression on the average consumer as pretty.
I have a feeling that Shiro Nakamura designed a beautiful, amazing car, and then it got penny-pinched to death until it was basically a slab of makeup over a generic mid-sized body. Other car companies do this all the time. Nissan doesn't. Nissan's models have always been relatively distinctive from their competitors, either in proportions or looks, and sort of always did their own thing favoring brute style over conservativism
I never thought I'd say this, but we live in an era now where the Chevrolet Impala is a more distinct, beautiful, and attractive design than the Nissan Skyline. It makes me sad.

Completley agree with the lack of enthusiasm towards the Q50.

It only took them 50 years, you know. I wasn't alive when the "pretty" Impalas were for sale.

Mazda 3 looks better and possibly even more so if they ever decide to make a speed3 version.

When you get up close, the Q50 is clearly higher quality, with deeper paint, better lines, and a lot of tasteful chrome and sleek details (the front headlights still look stunning) but unless you get really close it's just another bulgy red blob.
